Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for Travelling to the UK including Northern Ireland

From 2025, all travelers from the United States of America, Canada & Australia are required to hold a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) when visiting the United Kingdom, including travel to Northern Ireland, regardless of how they enter (i.e. travelling North from the Republic of Ireland). ​

  • If you are a dual citizen with British or Irish citizenship, you do not need an ETA. Prove your permission to travel using your British passport, Irish passport or other passport containing a certificate of entitlement.

 

An ETA will be linked to the traveler’s passport and will last for two years or until the traveler’s passport expires – whichever comes first.

  • If you get a new passport, you will need to apply for a new ETA.

Travelers will be able to make multiple journeys of up to 6 months within those two years.

An ETA will cost GBP 16 (British Pounds / £) and each traveler including babies and children will be required to hold an ETA.

  • Each person must apply individually (no group applications) and decision times may vary, even if you apply at the same time as someone else.
