Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for Travelling to the UK including Northern Ireland

From 2025, all travelers from the United States of America, Canada & Australia are required to hold a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) when visiting the United Kingdom, including travel to Northern Ireland, regardless of how they enter (i.e. travelling North from the Republic of Ireland).

  • If you are a dual citizen with British or Irish citizenship, you do not need an ETA. Prove your permission to travel using your British passport, Irish passport or other passport containing a certificate of entitlement.

An ETA will be linked to the traveler’s passport and will last for two years or until the traveler’s passport expires – whichever comes first.

  • If you get a new passport, you will need to apply for a new ETA.

Travelers will be able to make multiple journeys of up to 6 months within those two years.

An ETA will cost GBP 16 (British Pounds / £) and each traveler including babies and children will be required to hold an ETA.

  • Each person must apply individually (no group applications) and decision times may vary, even if you apply at the same time as someone else.

Additional information and guidance on how to apply is available here.
